Episode 135: Weekly Crime Report(8/01/2012)…
Show Summary:
Today on the weekly crime report we will follow-up on last weeks crimes to see if any new information has been discovered that has led to arrests for the people who committed the crimes. I will continue to follow up with these reports until the criminal is brought to justice. Hopefully, some closure will be brought to the victims.
This week we will look at the federal government’s ineptitude when prosecuting is needed, but protectionism is substituted in its place. It would appear the double standard is the example that this government would like to set, laws be damned. So buckle up, strap in, and get ready. The show is about to begin.

California is in bad shape. How bad? How about 16 billion dollars and counting bad. Now the new/old Governor Jerry Brown wants to close this behemoth budget deficit with a “temporary” tax hike.
Curtsey of Bloomberg Businessweek
The Democratic governor wants voters to approve the temporary tax increases in November as part of what he described as a series of steps to help California recover from the recession without deeper cuts to education and social services.
Under the Democratic governor’s initiative, California would temporarily raise the sales tax by a quarter-cent and increase the income tax on people who make $250,000 or more a year.
The article does state that California would be “making the tough cuts,” and work on making changes to public pension plans. In California, good luck with that. The rest of the article can be found here.
I am not a fan of taxes. This is because I have a Libertarian soul and I believe in little or no taxes with limited regulations on business. The few times that I actually would agree to a tax is when there is a critical societal need. Whatever that need is would have to be determined before the tax even comes close to being proposed.
However, I propose that tax could only be passed by a huge majority. I am talking about 80%-90% land here. Yes, this sounds absurd, but I believe that taxes are a bane upon society. In my estimation, a tax is an extraordinary measure that needs a consensus from a large majority in a society before implementation.
Taxes steal from the current generation and later generations as well. Why? Because the revenue from tax receipts goes towards spending. Usually the kind of spending that eventually leads to deficits.
Another questions here. How often are state funded projects completed on time and within budget guidelines? Very seldom indeed.
Deficits lead to more spending, usually in the form of issued bonds that are promised to be paid upon maturity. More debt in the system with tax revenues unable to keep up with the spending. And you end up with a 16 billion dollar budget deficit. Leaving future generations on the hook for the mistakes made by the current and past generations.
All of that being said, I raise this question. How often are taxes temporary? During the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression the Governor of the most prosperous state in the US wants the impede that economy even further by raising taxes. Never mind the ridiculous restrictions already placed on the residences of the state.
The concept of temporary taxes is pure idiocy. Kicking public unions out of government would significantly help with reducing the budget. Once that burden is gone, California would have a fighting chance to balance their budget. I hope Californians vote against temporary taxes this November.

Lat

Fat Tax-This might be one of the most idiotic proposals that has come out of academia in recent history
Curtsey of RTV6 ABC, TheIndyChannel.com
-
The reason this nation is currently fighting an obesity problem is because certain segments in agriculture; namely corn, grain, and soy are already heavily subsidized
-
Do you think these multi-billion dollar industries are going to give up their precious subsidies and enter a competitive marketplace, while their competition receives subsidies for veggies and other crops
-
Our current economic system is heavy skewed towards the benefit of big industry, yeah I am looking at you GE and GM
-
Winners and losers are picked by other people
-
How about getting rid of subsidies, lowering taxes, and let consumers make decisions for ourselves

Blog:
Sometime in the future we could be heading towards a cashless society. Technology has made the exchange of currency very simple and convenient for modern-day society. But this convenience could render unfortunate consequences.
Problems:
Transactions can be easily tracked. This could result with problems in several issues.
-
Privacy is obviously out the window. No more discrete purchases.
-
Wealth can no longer be kept out of the public’s eye. Cash allows a person to conceal their savings from people and institutions.
-
Buying habits will be tracked for everybody. This will allow people, organizations, and governments to build profiles about a person’s behavior.
-
Taxes can and will probably be raised quickly. Everybody will be on an equal playing field. No more hidden transactions. Cash and coinage acts as a buffer against increased taxes. Why? Because a cash transaction is difficult to track.
There are other questions that needs to be answered if a society goes cashless and uses technology as the means for payment. For instance, what happens if there are prolonged power outages? How would a society respond when funds could not be accessed over prolonged periods of time?
The loss of the human element, as cash and coinage are the mediums of a capitalist society. This intermediary is the exchange between two willing parties for the purchase and receipt of goods and services, an agreement. Physical coinage helps to solidify this agreement. Payment when services have been rendered successfully.
Finally, the element of physical touch will be lost. Owning actual physical wealth is an empowering experience. And being able to physically touch and hold that wealth in a person’s hands is representative of the labor and time spent towards acquiring that wealth.
