Episode 166:  Why You Stand-To…

Show Summary:

Stand-to is a security operation geared towards staying awake and alert during certain times of the day.  These times evolve around dusk and dawn.   Dawn is usually the crucial time for standing-to, as enemies will attack at these early hours knowing that defenders are mostly asleep and groggy from the previous night’s rest.  Defenders that are awake and alert, are not going to be taken by surprise.  And that is why standing-to is so important.  Everyone is pulling security while standing-to, 100% up, no exceptions!

Show Notes/Topics:

  • What is Stand-to?
  • Why Stand-To?
  • Smart enemies will attack at the most advantageous times
  • Enemies could attack at any time while you are conducting a defense – but those times at dusk and dawn are critical
  • These are the times when defenders are the least aware, facing a change in the environment(sun going down – sun coming up – temperature changes), full from dinner – hungry before breakfast, less alert and making noise – NOT PAYING ATTENTION
  • Dusk is bad, but dawn is worse for the defender
  • The night gives enemies a chance to maneuver into position, while masking their maneuvers – when attacking they have the advantage of hiding their numbers
  • I used to hate doing this
  • But it is VERY important
  • Everybody pulls security while standing-to – no exceptions – you meet their force with maximum numbers, so that you can get all of your firepower on attackers stupid enough to come into your line of fire

Episode 123:  Weekly Crime Report(7/25/2012)…

Show Summary:

I am going to skip what happened in Colorado for this show.  I already discussed this tragic incident on my week in review show on Sunday and just about everybody in the country has heard about this tragic event.  Once again my condolences go out to all the people who lost loves because of this tragedy.

The reason I have added this report is to illustrate the necessity to be aware of what is happening in the world of crime and why a person should prepare for a potential increase in crime over the coming months and years.  I fear that our as our economy slows down, people will turn to desperate acts as the prospects of going to jail are weighed against the reality of our times.  So please, keep your eyes open out there and pay attention, because situational awareness will a become skill set needed in the future.

Episode 64:  Flash Mob Crime And Situational Awareness…

Show Summary:

With the proliferation of mobile technology, the ability for people to organize quickly has now become very easy.  Unfortunately, the ability to organize quickly has brought about a new criminal phenomenon, flash mobs.  Flash mobs are organized mobs that can seemingly appear out of nowhere and wreak havoc.  As an example, retail stores have been vandalized repeatedly in larger cities.

Situational awareness and self-defense are now a necessity when dealing with flash mobs.  Spotting a large movement of people gathering quickly and heading towards a location is a sure sign that you should stay away from that area.  If the mob is heading towards your direction, get out of the way and notify local law enforcement.  But if law enforcement is not in your area, expect some time before their arrival.  Always trust your personal safety to yourself and not to someone else

Episode 19: Crime, Be Aware, Nonlethal Force, & The Brain…

Show Topics:

  • Crime – Threats to our survival

  • Crime will probably increase more over the next couple of years

  • Desperate people, doing desperate things

  • Few, if no choices left/economy spiraling downward

  • NFP numbers are worthless, millions of people out of workforce or underemployed

  • Reading body language

  • Martial arts

  • What can be learned from the Zimmerman/Martin tragedy, nonlethal weapons, firearms training, knowing state laws

Blog:

Crime will continue to increase as the economy declines. Every individual should be aware of their surroundings and other people in their vicinity. This is NOT paranoia, as the possibility of real danger is and will increase.

In the military this concept is deemed situational awareness. As civilians, we need to become adept at this type of thinking. Possible threats from other people can be determined in advance by reading body language and personal behavior.

As the economy deteriorates, people will increasingly become more desperate. Survival will become harder and people will look to take away from others. This is the reality of the world of today and the future, as the US slowly succumbs to third world status over the next decade.

Jobs will continue to be scarce as a result of the current economic depression. The NFP(non farm payroll) numbers are a joke and do not represent the number of people who have left the workforce. Millions of people have simply given up looking for employment. If a person has not found work after six months of unemployment, than the chances that person will find future employment drops dramatically.

Unfortunately, incidents like the death of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman will continue to happen in the future. Throw out the racial perspective to this case and look at it from the perspective of two combatants engaged in conflict. The determining factor to this engagement was from the use of a firearm.

But this engagement might of not happened if Zimmerman did not pursue Martin, and simply let law enforcement intervene in the matter. Additionally, nonlethal defense measures might have been used before the use of lethal force. As a result, a child’s life was tragically lost.

However, I was not there on the night of the shooting and I cannot pass judgement on someone who was defending themselves. Every individual needs to make decisions for themselves if they feel that their life is in danger. That is why training in the use of nonlethal weapons, martial arts, being physical fit, and simply using our brains is so important. Sometimes, a person should just walk away before a conflict erupts.

In closing for today, we will have to make judgments for ourselves in order to determine possible threats; rather real or perceived. Practicing situational awareness everyday will help to deter most confrontations. Remember, our brain is our most powerful alley. Please do not be afraid to use it.
