Episode 362:  30 Minutes With The Poor Man Prepper(4-29-2013)…

Show Notes/Topics:

Adult Podcast

  • This is an adult podcast – you are now officially forewarned

Show Schedule Is Going Bye, Bye

  • Just tired of keeping up a daily schedule – every week
  • Kind of kills my creative side – if it is a topic that I want to discuss, well I really do not want a schedule dictating what I do

Eating Economic Crow, Or Am I?

  • The second qtr GDP print came out(1st edition) and the print showed 2.5% growth(well below expectations)
  • But I was expecting a negative print – personal expenditures contributed to most of the growth(perplexing to me consider the expiration of the payroll tax break and the sequester)
  • I made a mistake on my call and I will be the first to admit to that mistake
  • However, energy prices are higher, health care is higher – and some industries like firearm and ammo manufactures are doing exceptionally well
  • I know that restaurants are taking a beating and consumers are making difficult choices
  • Food stamp usage is at an all time high and I simply do not see any real growth in the economy outside of healthcare and government(federal)

Living On Beans And Rice

  • How about a little more variety to your preps – Heh!

Episode 162:  Bug Out Bags From Around The World – Morale Food(8/14/2012)…

Show Summary:

Today we are going to discuss the importance of morale food and why it should be added to your bug out bag.  Now listen, this does not mean that you buy two large bags of Snickers or other candy bars and throw them in your pack.  Weight people, weight, we do not want too much weight on our backs.  Not to mention storage space taken up.  But one or two candy bars, or some hard rock candy will hit the spot in case you are down on your luck and need a motivational pick me up.

Show Notes/Topics And Links:

  • My apologizes for yesterday’s shows – I was not feeling well and just could not get it together – a lot of uncertainty in my personal life at the moment and I am having some difficulty adapting
  • We called this stuff pogey bait in the military – if you had some, a poge was sure to show up and asked for some – a poge being a person who never buys his/her own stuff, but wants to have some your own
  • I guessed it made everybody happy in the end – at least until it ran out
  • The real object of carrying this stuff is to make yourself happy – a morale boost in bad times
  • The plus is that you get a sugar pick-me-up that can help you carry through difficult time periods
  • The down side – the sugar downer
  • Pick and chose when you eat your morale food
  • The sugary candy bar or hard candy would be the best bets
  • But climate and the time of year might change what you carry – candy bars melt when it gets hot :(
  • Granola bars might be a usable alternative
  • Do not carry too much – remember weight concerns here – and you will also go through your morale food much quicker if you think that you have an adequate supply
  • Remember – use this stuff only when your morale is low and you need a boost
  • It could be that one happy moment that you have for yourself when the chips are down and you need to gain some perspective

Episode 152:  What Happens When The Food Runs Out?…

Show Summary:

As I was scratching my head this morning thinking about what I was going to talk about for this segment, I imagined scraping out all of the food at the bottom of a container.  And then it dawned on me.  A question formed in my head.  What happens when the food runs out?  Quite the dilemma for preppers who actually work towards self-sufficient.  This could be a reality check moment.

Show Topics:

  • Well on the plus side, it takes weeks to expire from starvation
  • You will die from dehydration long before starvation
  • If you have stocked food – probably about a three month supply – you should be okay
  • What ever the crisis is – it possibly could last longer then three months
  • Stores do not last forever
  • So what happens when the food runs out?
  • Have you made contingency plans in case such eventuality happens to you
  • Are you going to hunt for food, scavenge, pick up food at a charitable donation center, use food stamps
  • All are valid questions worth considering, especially if you have family that needs to be taken care of
  • When does your principles clash with the reality of a situation

Episode 147:  Oil Prices, Food Prices, And A Tired Consumer…

Show Summary:

Oil prices and food prices are going up.  What can be done to avoid being stuck between the rock and a hard place?  Overall, not much.  But a few adjustments can be made here and there to save a little cash and buy extra time.  That’s right folks, economically we are on borrowed time because of too much debt in the overall economic system.

I feel over the next couple of years the American consumer will continue to be pushed as we try to deleverage.  Unfortunately, deleveraging is hard to accomplish with diminishing/stagnant incomes and inflation eating into our wallets, like a disease.  Today we will talk about the plight of the American consumer and what needs to be done now, by taking of advantage of the present.

Show Topics/Notes:

  • Times are rough now to be sure
  • Drought, heat, equality markets driving oil prices up, and food prices going up
  • We are still in a better position then the rest of the world
  • Especially Europe – The Europeans are getting hammered right now, particularly Spain and Greece
  • Preparing gives us time for the economic disaster that will happen in America once the system becomes overloaded with too much debt – Critical Mass
  • Save when you can and cut back on your spending – pay off debt
  • Save gas by not taking pleasure trips – driving around for no reason
  • Why buy more clothes – I bet you have a closet full of clothes that have not be worn for many years – I know that I have – but these days I hardly buy clothes with the exception of socks, underwear, and undershirts
  • Don’t buy that gadget – do you really need it?
  • We need to be smart why we still have time – that will always make the future better in one way or the other
