Episode 378: Fitness Prepping – Winning Mentality(5-14-2013)…
Show Summary:
It is so easy to give up. To say, “Enough is enough, I’m through, I’m done. The hell with my goals and dreams.” This is the mentality of a loser. Someone who obviously does not care about making it to the next level in life, or is afraid to tackle challenges.
The mentality of a winner is a mind-set that is geared towards never giving up and focusing on the objective. A person is who is driven to the point, so that they will be undeterred by failure and will not make excuses to that they can quit. That is the easy way out and not indicative of the struggle that allowed humanity to prosper by overcoming obstacles.

Episode 222: The Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – Denial(10/24/2012)…
Show Summary:
Denial is the strongest form of behavior that humans constantly exhibit everyday. It’s amazing how easily we fool ourselves into believing alternate realities, when the world of the real is setting in front our faces. Laughing at us, laughing at our complacency.
Coming to terms with denial is a way to actually deal with this mental trickster. Until one understands the need to accept denial as a force multiplier, that destroys our true dreams and ambitions. If acceptance of denial is never ascertained, that person will be hard pressed in their search for peace and tranquility in the their lives.

Episode 79: Sci-Fi Saturday-Serenity…
Show Summary:
I love this movie. Something about having your own destiny in your hands and living life on the edge is very appealing to me. In someways, I feel that I have been living like this for the last five years. Barely enough income to get by, but never giving up on my dream of creating a better life for myself. And the whole concept of owning your own ship and travailing through space and getting into adventures is friggin awesome. Sometimes I wish that I had my own ship, set sail for the void, and let the chips fall were they may.
You might be thinking, what does this have to do with prepping/survival? Well, living on the edge gives you an appreciation for the spirit of living for the day and thinking about how to survive for tomorrow. You simply cannot afford to make mistakes, or it is over with. So, preparing for possible unpleasant contingencies is a must. This keeps your mind out of complacency land so that you not get stuck in a routine. Yes, adventures cannot afford to be complacent.
Tonight I am going to talk about why I love this movie and talk about the themes in relation to freedom, independence, ethics, prepping/survival and adventure. Also, I am going to discuss another science fiction movie from my childhood, The Ice Pirates. This should be an interesting show, so set back, buckle up, and enjoy the ride.
Show Notes And Links:
-
When I was growing up-The Ice Pirates(1984) was one of my favorite movies
-
I only saw a few of the episodes from the Firefly series
Why I love Serenity(2005):
-
Mal as captain-Rebel
-
Looks after crew
-
Barely keeping ship together
-
Adventures, missions, traveling from one port of call to another
-
No-I do not think robbing banks is my idea of an adventure
-
Alliance-fighting against an entity that is far larger and complex
-
Just one ship and crew were able to make a difference against incredible odds
For Us:
-
Living on the edge, life, surviving for the day, and preparing for tomorrow
-
The more I think about movies like this-the more I want to go on my own adventures in life
-
I think there is a calling out there to go out and see the world

“I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.”
William Ernest Henley
I really feel like saying something right now. This little rant will probably go out into cyberspace nothingness, like a small asteroid going through space. But I really do not friggin care.
We only have one life to live. That’s it, only so much time on this planet. Period. Now, how you prefer to choose to live your life during this time here is up to you. As a caged animal or a free human being. Sure there is some gray area, but the fundamentals at the opposite ends of the spectrum are the same.
I could care less what your political party, ideology, or religion is. I do not give a damn. You either choose to be free or not. That person who stares back at you in the mirror is the person who has your best interest at heart. You, You, You, and YOU.
Sure, families and communities are important. We need our families and communities to help share the burden of pain when times get bad. But right now, this very friggin second, you are in control. In control of your soul and heart. And no one can take that away from you, no one. Except, if you choose to give it away.
What pisses me off is how we allow ourselves to be complacent and sit back on our laurels while others steal our lunch right from under our eyes. And you know what, we are okay with that. Happens every day. Will happen tomorrow too.
Wondering what you can do to make a true change. Stop becoming so damn dependent on the system. A system that does not care about you as a person, but looks at you as a number. And the people in charge of that system, the ones at the top. They couldn’t give a damn about you. Most would rather spit in your face then help.
These people, our politicians, 95% of them could care less about your fate. They are politicians, not leaders. So sorry, but you probably realized that a long time ago. But your friggin complacency has left you on your ass staring at your damn televisions while our guardian vampires suck you dry.
But, it’s not really their fault, the guardian vampires. We deserve the politicians that we vote into office, as we are too afraid to elect a real leader. Somebody who has the balls to tell you that are full of shit and that sometimes there are no easy answers. That sometimes you are your own cavalry, and that nobody is going to be charging into danger to rescue you if the shit hits the fan.
No, we like people who tell us stories that everything is going to be okay. That the world is not hard and that magic fairies and unicorns exist. That 15 trillion dollars of debt is okay. That social programs are the answer to prosperity. Yadda, Yadda, Friggin Yadda. Both political parties have pulled the wool over our eyes for decades.
If you want to be a caged animal, go right ahead, that is your choice. But if you want to start making a change, git rid of the damn TVs, get off your ass and go to the library. Read, think, and write down your thoughts. If you want entertainment, there are lots of other options.
But if you take anything a way from this rant today, consider this. Right now, this very instant make a choice. Either continue your existence as a caged animal or embrace the true freedom of a sentient being. The freedom to acknowledge that you have a heart and soul, and that nobody will ever take that away from you. Time to stand.

Hi Folks,
On this day in history King Louis XVI was sentenced to death. King Louis eventually met his fate at the guillotine. Louis’s wife, Marie Antoinette also suffered the same fate as her husband. This is all well and good except for the fact that 20,000 people suffered the same fate as our before mentioned hapless monarchs. That is a problem, because innocent people were probably executed in the ranks of those 20,000 during the “Reign of Terror”.
But here is the real problem. What it took to actually drive the Parisians to finally do away with their king and queen. Hunger. The kind of hunger that Americans cannot fathom. The men and women who revolted were subsisting on a diet of bread. A diet consisting almost entirely out of bread will barely support life. Try eating bread everyday for a week and see how a human body will react. I have done something very similar during one of the hardest times of my life and my body did not care for that diet.
Oh monarchs, kings, and royalty. Hardly. These people that were anointed as the supreme leaders of a nation were merely people, but with an eloquent title given before their names. In the case of Louis and Marie, terrible rulers.
The fact that King Louis was the sixteenth in his line of succession shows how docile and gullible we can be as people. Wake up! That same type of complacency is here again. Think that I am off my rocker. Than how come close to 50 million Americans are on food stamps now?
I don’t want to see 20,000 people executed. Also, I do not want to see the disunion of this great country either. There is a lot of problems with our nation, but we have time to make a change. A finite amount of time, that is diminishing quickly. Remember, that the French Revolution opened the door for one of history’s greatest despots to gain control of France during the power vacuum. Napoleon Bonaparte.

Hi Folks,
That question has been repeatedly asked since the financial crisis ended. Why has no one went to jail? The answer is pretty simple. Get up out of your seat, go to the bathroom and take a look in the mirror. Yep, that person starring back at you in the mirror is the reason no one has been held accountable for the blatant theft of the American tax payer’s money.
Well Lat, I am just one person, what difference can one person make? The answer is quite a bit can be accomplished by one person. It only takes one person. Petitions can be signed, voices can be heard. Get involved with your local communities. But start somewhere.
Look, I want these people to go to jail just as much as the next person. For me, not so much to see justice served, but to set an example. An example for future generations of possible high dollar, white collar criminals. That’s right. As long we condone this behavior, it will continue and the next disaster that these brainiacs created will be even worse.
The line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere. Our complacency has led us to this moment in time. I think the it is time for us to make a stand together so that there will not be a next time. If we continue to condone this behavior as a society, then our children will not have a future.

Hi Folks,
Today I am going to talk about how I made a huge mistake over the holidays. I am also going to talk about me being a big cheapo and not spending money when it was actually prudent to do so. I should of made some reasonable purchases that could of protected my interest.
Okay, for the last four years I have been going home during the holidays. On my trips home I take all of my old files, receipts, and documents home. I then sort through the documents and burn them. Sounds like a great plan, right? Wrong!
On my last trip home, I was staying home with my parents. I did my usual routine and sorted through all of my paperwork and threw the documents in the trash can in the basement. I was going to take out all of that trash and burn it before I left.
Well, Dad saw that the trash can in the basement was full and made a trash run to the dump. Yep, with all of my unburned, unshredded, and very personal documents. I got to tell you that when I found out, I almost crapped myself. Of course I could not get mad at my dad. The only person I could get mad at was yours truly.
I could of went out and bought a shredder years ago. But I did not. I was being cheap and could cost me big time someday. Mistakes happen, I just have to learn from them. So this is my new initiative.
- I bought a shredder as soon as I returned from the holidays. Sensitive documents are sorted through daily and then destroyed.
- Passwords. At present count-I have 27 passwords to various accounts. There are probably more that I have not found yet or simply forgotten about. I am currently collecting all of these passwords. Once I am finished, the passwords will be placed on two flash drives-both encrypted. One will always stay with me, the other will be kept in a fire safe.
I have always been organized. Almost methodical. This has kept me in good stead for years and is a good practice to keep. However, my complacency and narrow mindedness lead me to make a huge mistake. I became accustomed to an old routine that was flawed to begin with.
Honestly, I really did think of buying a shredder years ago and buying extra flash drives. Alas, I did not. So the moral of this story is this-be reasonable with yourself. Guard against complacency and think about what you are doing in the present. Learn from your mistakes, or lose now.
Take Care,
Lat
