Mistake

  • I noted in the beginning of the podcast that this was Episode 367 – that would be wrong, as this is Episode 366 – rock on!

What Happened To The Adventures?

  • We used to be a people who challenged ourselves
  • Now we are stuck in a modern-day life, where we go home and watch ESPN
  • In the past, sailors would leave everything that they had and get aboard sailing ships and spend months on the open sea, crossing oceans, in cramped living quarters with other people

Thinking About Becoming An ExPat

  • I have seriously been thinking about leaving the country some day in the future
  • I also think it would be awesome to learn how to sail and go out on the ocean and visit different countries

Distant Horizons

  • Before agriculture, we once roamed the world as hunter/gathers – this drive is still in our blood
  • Even it means just getting out and exploring our local communities – think about getting out and exploring

Episode 356:  Appreciating What We Have And Rebuilding The Family Unit(4-23-2013)…

Show Summary:

I seriously thought about yanking this episode today.  While listening to this podcast, I realized that the latter part of the podcast where I discuss rebuilding the family unit was conflicting with the first part of the podcast.  I hate it when that happens – damn self-defeating arguments.

The fallacy of my argument revolves around technology and how technology has made our lives much simpler, but has also slowly driven a stake into the heart of the family unit.  However, the first part of the show discusses the simplicity of our current lives and how the generations of the past would have been far more appreciative of our current living standards due to technology.  Confused yet?  I know that I am.

Honestly, I’m not sure if I was just distracted by my driving while I was recording and that I just lost my train of thought.  Or if it’s because I’m just a morion.  Probably because I’m a morion – yep!

After considering my options last night, I figured I just go ahead and let this episode run today.  It would just be too much of a friggin pain to change-up the weekly schedule(another reason why I’m thinking about ditching the schedule) and I’ve already uploaded the podcast to the server.  And that is a royal pain of unimaginably horrific proportions to change(nah – I’m seriously just lazy today).

Of course if this podcast is not well received, there are hundreds of other episodes to listen to in the library.  And if any of those old episodes are not to the listeners’ liking and said listener simply thinks that I suck(manly because I’m a moronic idiot who doesn’t have a clue).  Then simply do not listen to any of my podcasts in the future.  To further any seething aggression that one might have towards me for my stupidity, simply go to iTunes and write an epically awful review(insert sarcasm here – just joking)!

Appreciating What We Have In Today’s World

  • In America, we still live well
  • But many people across the world live in squalor
  • Is there a reason to live in a state of melancholy?
  • Our fore-fathers and fore-mothers from the past would be far more appreciative of the modern conveniences that we have
  • Imagine having a conversation with someone who lived 160 years ago – what do you think their opinion would be of the world we live in?
  • The generations of the past worked themselves to the bone, but there was cohesion within the family

Destruction Of The Family Unit

  • Is the information technology of today simply distracting us from our value systems of old

Episode 328:  The Lost Generation(3-26-2013)…

Show Notes/Topics And Links:

Adult Podcast

  • This is an adult podcast – you are now officially forewarned

Why This Topic For Today’s Show

  • This podcast is geared towards hope and reflecting about potential futures
  • This podcast is partially inspired by William Strauss and Neil Howe’s, Forth Turning
  • I’m a true believer individual prosperity – however, sometimes the fate of the individual psyche is defined by generational moves, or shifts in the psyche/consciousness of entire generations
  • The terror attacks and subsequent wars, followed by the Greater Depression that we are currently enduring is shaping the Gen X’s and Millennials/Gen Y’s of today’s population
  • I currently belief that we are on the precipitous of some truly frightening movements that will change how we will operate in the future and how our current youth will endure the coming hardships and prosper in the enlightenment
  • Sometimes, in order to learn and adapt, one must struggle so the true course of a person’s soul can be found – this also relates to entire generations as well

The Lost Generation

  • I’m referring to the generation that fought in World War 1 and endured hardships never seen in the last 100 years
  • However, this generation was caught in a maze of truly astounding societal shifts, including the socialist/communist and anarchist movements
  • Women’s suffrage and the gaining of the franchise
  • Imperialism across other countries and contents
  • The end of the Chinese Empire and the beginnings of the modern Japanese Empire
  • The Spanish Flu – World wide 1918 flu pandemic
  • The Depression of 1920-1921
  • Followed by the Great Depression that lasted from 1929 – to roughly the end of World War 2
  • Prohibition and the resulting crime wave that ensued from criminal opportunists
  • The creation of the Federal Reserve in the US
  • The Seventeenth Amendment allowing for the direct vote of Senators by popular vote in the US and the subsequent problems that has resulted from that – See John McCain and Diane Fienstein
  • Many events that essentially steamed roll a generation into a hardened, but lost group of survivors who had their lives forever changed
  • Look to the people that we call leaders and when we ask for guidance, we get platitudes and misdirection, as opposed to reality
  • We are on our own, but that should not be frightening – this is our chance for enlightenment, to think freely and to question why we are being misled

Episode 292:  The Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – Fear Of Winning(12/5/2012)…

Show Notes/Topics And Links:

Housekeeping

  • Possible disruption of the website in the future, as I am currently transferring from HostGator to a new hosting services – will keep everyone posted
  • Tomorrows show will not be out until very late on Thursday or way in the early morning on Friday
  • Why I do this show
  • There will probably be anywhere from 2-4 more episodes left for this show segment and then I will be replacing this podcasting segment with a new show

Fear Of Winning

  • Is there such a thing as fear of winning or fear of success?
  • Short answer – yes
  • This can be seen as act of self-sabotage or defeatism
  • People sometimes do not have a conception of what success actually is and having difficulty achieving the happiness in their lives
  • They simply have never experienced consistent happiness or winning through work, effort, or drive
  • For instance
    1. A person who has never had a stable family setting or a person who has always been living in high a crime setting may never know what it takes to develop a successful family
    2. Never been on a winning team or taken part in an activity that shows as a positive outcome with benefits and more opportunities

Finding Success And Winning

  • You need to define what success actually is for you
  • Once you know what it is that will make you happy and successful – work towards those goals and aspiration – believe in the dream
  • Find other people with similar interest in communities, organizations and clubs – a team can be far more powerful than one person
  • And cut down on time with people who exhibits self-defeating behavior

Episode 279:  Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – Resilience(11/28/2012)…

Show Notes/Topics And Links:

“Man never made any material as resilient as the human spirit.”

Bern Williams

Resilience Defined

Drawback

  • Unfortunately, like any stimulant or emotion, if a person becomes utterly depends on resiliency to accomplish their goals in life, they will more than likely become very bitter
  • Or downtrodden by the same emotion that allowed them to become successful
  • Mix your resilience with other emotions, like humor/laughter, so that you do not become emotionally switched off by the burning desire to become better

Episode 259:  Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – Laughter(11/14/2012)…

Show Summary:

One of the largest problems with the prepper/survivalist community is how we take things way too seriously.  Look, most people with an IQ of 75 understands that there are problems in the world.  And to be sure, these problems need to be addressed.

Unfortunately, as lines in the sand are drawn and posturing ensues, little headway for compromise is given.  From my perspective, maybe we should start considering alternatives for venting our anger and frustration.  One of the ways to cut back on aggression in our lives is laughter.

When was the last time that you let out a toe curling, five minute belly laugh?  Probably has been a while, hasn’t?  Laughing allows us to feel like children again.  And sometimes during the course of our chaotic days, the innocence of forgotten youth is sorely needed.

Show Notes/Topics:

Housekeeping

  • Just a reminder why I have added this segment to the weekly schedule
  • Drop by the website and leave a message via SpeakPipe for a listener feedback show – look for the send voicemail icon on the left side of the screen

Today’s World In Prepping

  • Lot of pessimism out there
  • I should know, my last podcast talked about another major war in Europe
  • Throw in the economy and politics into the mix
  • Kind of leaves a bitter taste in your mouth after a while
  • And I think this is a huge problem in the prepper/survivalist community
  • We take things too damn seriously

Laughter

  • When was the last time that you had a good laugh?
  • Or just been in a good mood period?
  • It’s as if we lost our innocence and all of the hope and joy that came with youth
  • Laughter helps you relax and generally calm down
  • And the best part, women love to laugh too

What Makes You Laugh?

  • Do you like dry humor or slapstick comedy?
  • What about standup or toons like Southpark or Family Guy?
  • Or dirty jokes?
  • Doesn’t matter, just try to add a little humor and laughing as part of your everyday routine
  • And of course, having ways to laugh should be apart of your preps as well

Episode 246:  Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – Focusing(11/7/2012)…

Show Summary:

The act of focusing can be a tough act.  These days, with so many different ways to be distracted, it is hard to imagine how anything is accomplished.  And with the proliferation of technology, focusing will increasingly become even more difficult in our hectic modern day lives.

However, learning how to focus is not a monumental mental obstacle.  Nor is focusing a mythical fantasy where only nerds with pocket protectors can pinpoint their thoughts.  All a person needs to understand, is that focusing is a skill that can be learned.

Once the mind comes to grip with this understanding, learning how to focus will become easier for the individual.  However, a skill can be unlearned just as quickly as learned.  That means practicing and becoming more efficient with using the newly acquired skill everyday.

Show Notes/Topics:

Housecleaning

  • Sorry about the dogs barking – will find a better location to record next time

The Need To Focus

  • Focusing the mind is an incredibly difficult proposition for must of us in today’s modern era
  • We have so many distractions – rather it be TVs, iPods/MP3 players, radio and YouTube to just name a few
  • As a result, or personal and professional lives slowly become unraveled as we forget important dates and information
  • Like payment due dates, business meetings, wedding anniversaries and birthdays

How To Focus

Lists

  • Use lists as an organizer for the mind’s thoughts
  • This is a powerful tool that I use
  • Give yourself anywhere from 5-10 minutes to write down all of the objectives that you want completed for the day
  • Take about 5 minutes to prioritize your list in the order that your objectives need to be accomplished
  • Use a stopwatch or timer to keep you honest with time
  • Do not worry if you do not get everything accomplished on your list in one day
  • Simply transfer over the incomplete portions of the list to the next day
  • Keep a running list going throughout the day as thoughts come to mind, but do not include those thoughts on the current list for the day
  • Unless – the thought is an urgent matter that needs to be taken care of immediately

Distractions

  • And turn the noise off – please!
  • Cutting the distractions out of your life will allow your mind to get to business
  • That means everything that is nonessential for completing your task needs to go bye, bye
  • Take a break, but do not allow yourself to be carried off into daydream fantasy land for to long

Skills

  • Remember, focusing is just like any other skill – it can be unlearned very quickly
  • A person must practice focusing daily in order to become better at this skill set

Episode 234:  The Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – The Conversation(10/31/2012)…

Show Summary:

Everyday people have conversations within their minds.  Often, these conversations tend to verge on negative outcomes or false premises.  And when reality ensues, these conversations are often nowhere close as bad as our imaginations made them out to be.  Even though reality offers relief, a tremendous amount of negative energy and doubt leaves us drained.  Additionally, all of the time spent worrying about false outcomes, means that a tremendous amount of positive working time is lost.  A double edge blade, that cuts both ways.

Show Notes/Topics:

Negative Conversation

  • Realize when you are having these conversations – listen to yourself
  • Hit the record button in your mind – what was the conversation about
  • Often times, the conversation dealt with negative outcomes of events that you have absolutely no control whatsoever

Turn The Negative To The Positive

  • Practice the art of listening to the conversations in the mind
  • Once you understand what is happening, stop the negative and turn the conversation to the positive
  • Thank about postive outcomes -
  • DO NOT ALLOW THE DREAD RULE YOUR LIFE

Take Control

  • You are the captain of the ship – no one can take that away from you
  • Don’t be afraid of failure if you slip – it is all a learning experience
  • Be patient with your efforts and drive towards success

Episode 222:  The Mind In The Eye Of The Storm – Denial(10/24/2012)…

Show Summary:

Denial is the strongest form of behavior that humans constantly exhibit everyday.  It’s amazing how easily we fool ourselves into believing alternate realities, when the world of the real is setting in front our faces.  Laughing at us, laughing at our complacency.

Coming to terms with denial is a way to actually deal with this mental trickster.  Until one understands the need to accept denial as a force multiplier, that destroys our true dreams and ambitions.  If acceptance of denial is never ascertained, that person will be hard pressed in their search for peace and tranquility in the their lives.

Show Notes/Topics:

  • The idea behind this show and why the name for the title
  • The importance of staying mentally strong

Denial

  • Why denial is one our minds greatest enemies
  • Denial – in my opinion, is one of the largest factors for human failure
  • I see it every day
  • Combating denial
  • The first step – acceptance
  • Only after accepting denial as a component in the their lives, will they be able to successfully take the next steps towards a person’s actual success
