Episode 384:  30 Minutes With The Poor Man Prepper(5-20-2013)…

Show Summary:

On today’s show, I will discuss my trip on the Appalachian Trail last week, an epic mistake that I made and how I held myself accountable for that mistake.  It’s a story of lack attention to detail on my part.  However, when horrible mistakes are made, that doesn’t mean that all is lost, as I was able to find a solution to the problem through endurance and sheer will.  Plus – I will discuss how the SteriPEN Freedom worked out in the field.  I was not disappointed.

Also, I wanted to discuss some additional show changes.  I have decided to do away with weekend podcast and just focus on the content that I love to talk about during the week.  This way I will have more time to blog and make YouTube videos.  The Monthly Entrepreneur will be fit into the weekly rotation, as I love to talk about business and being an entrepreneur.

Show Note/Topics And Links:

Appalachian Trail trip – what happened?

  • Why it’s so important to focus when you are tired and pay attention to detail
  • Got to keep sensitive/critical items close by and NOT LOSE them
  • Holding myself accountable and resolving the problem that I caused
  • The SteriPen Freedom freedom was awesome – I still want to field test more – plus purchase a portable solar panel for longer trips and see how well the SteriPEN charges
    on this renewable energy system

Some Show Updates And Changes With Show

  • No more weekend shows for the immediate future
  • Just spending too much time on a variety of topics and I’m starting to get stressed out putting quality content together
  • For the time being, I just want to focus on the topics that I love – The Monthly Entrepreneur will probably be placed in a weekday spot
  • Additionally, I want to spend more time blogging, making YouTube videos and building the forum

Episode 383:  The Monthly Entrepreneur(5-19-2013)…

Show Summary:

On this edition of The Monthly Entrepreneur, I will discuss the need for being on YouTube for all entrepreneurs.  YouTube not only gives business owners the opportunity to advertise and promote their products, but also draw revenue from Google Ad-sense as well.  All of this can be accomplished with little production cost.

The rest of the podcast will be devoted to a discussion regarding Matt Drudge and the Drudge report.  Matt Drudge was a relative nobody 15 years ago, but now operates a million dollar a year website.  This success in indicative of the age of the internet, as new business opportunities are available for anyone has initiative and the drive to succeed.

Show Notes/Topics And Links:

YouTube

  • Is an absolute most for all business owners to be on YouTube
  • YouTube gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to advertise their products and services
  • And can be done very little production cost for the business owner
  • An entrepreneur’s reach when using YouTube when Compared to making a commercial for TV, or running advertisements in local media is far greater – and considerably less expensive – which means greater margin for the entrepreneur

Matt Drudge – Drudge Report

  • Who is Matt Drudge and what is the Drudge Report?
  • Started with nothing, worked as a clerk in a 7-Eleven, a telemarketer and retail salesperson in a gift shop at CBS studios in Los Angeles
  • Now owns one of the largest news websites in the world
  • All of this due to the opportunities that the internet offers today combined with drive, determination and intelligence of one person

Episode 382:  The Week In Review From A Libertarian’s Perspective(5-18-2013)…

Show Summary:

No notes for today’s show, cause I really did not feel like categorizing everything I said on today’s podcast.  So I’m just going to include the gist of today’s podcast in the summary.  And the main reason for this is because this show, in its entirety, is a rant against the totalitarian government that has simply became too large and uncontrollable in modern America.

I personally feel that we, the average citizens of the US still have a say in what is happening in our country.  In the podcast, I refer to the citizens as the adults and the government as a child that has simply gotten away with too much.  Unfortunately, the parents have been horrible adults.  But like most adults, we can regain control of our behaviorally challenged child by simply being firm in our conviction and saying, “Enough is enough.”

This will not be easy, as the voting system that we believe in as a representation of true democratic freedom is a farce.  The needed change can only take place in grassroots movements, where community and trust is built.  Acting together, there is unity and corporation towards a common a goal.  The rescue of our once great country from the clutches of quasi tyrants and thugs.  The saving of our nation is a worthwhile endeavor, as other people from across the world still look at America as a bastion of freedom and true hope.

When we look to our politicians for answers to these problems, we see cowards and liars.  Leadership is needed, not cowardly politicians who point fingers at each other when there is problems on the horizon.  A true leader takes responsibility for problems and rises to the occasion to fix the wrongs.  My friends, we are the leaders and it is not too late to make a difference.

Episode 381:  Hard Assets – India And Other Countries Importing Gold(5-17-2013)…

Show Summary:

India is leading the way with purchasing a disproportionate amount of gold and importing the yellow metal into the land of 1 billion plus people.  Gold is viewed a safe store of wealth and is also a huge part of India’s culture.  And this cultural phenomenon will not change in the near future, as gold prices decline after a recent rebound.

So for today’s show, I will discuss India’s recent important surge of gold, as people are looking to physically hold onto the yellow metal during times of economic distress.  Also, I will briefly discuss Russia and other countries that have grown to love gold, as these countries continually important more and more of the precious metal.  Should be an interesting show, so strap in and get ready.  The show is about to begin.

Episode 380:  Firearms And Preppers – Range Safety And Favorite Firearm Reads(5-16-2013)…

Show Summary:

On today’s show, I will discuss properly implementing range safety when shooting at out outdoor firearm ranges.  Common sense approaches applied to legitimate safety concerns are a must when putting rounds down range.  Trust me on this one, as I have been down range during a supposedly cold shooting cease-fire, only to have bullets still head towards targets while I was potentially at risk of being hit by a stray.  Stupid people will always do stupid things in the most precarious of circumstances.

Show Notes/Topics And Links:

Range Safety

  • Follow range rules – most ranges have rules posted so that they can be read by all
  • All firearms should be treated as loaded, even if they are not
  • Check the firearm to see if there is a round in the chamber, even if you are sure that one is not present
  • Keep firearms pointed down range – especially when loading, or examining the weapon – NEVER point a firearm at a person
  • When the range is cold, it’s cold – do not be messing with a firearm on the firing line, loading, or aiming at a target when there is still people down range
  • Be considerate of fellow shooters

Show Summary:

On today’s show I will discuss the continued destruction of Syria, as that country falls into a state of chaos and average Syrian citizens are caught in the middle of a horrible civil war.  Then we will focus on Southern Russia, as the Russian people still fight against the Chechen terrorist that have plagued the regions of Russia for years.  And finally, I will discuss the search for Joseph Kony in Uganda, as this elusive warlord has not been apprehended despite the efforts of US Special Forces operating in the area.

Show Topics/Notes And Links:

Syria

  • Syria – a country torn apart in the midst of a civil war between extremest insurgents and a totalitarian puppet government

Southern Russia

  • The US is still in shock after the terrorist attacks in Boston by Chechen Islamist terrorist
  • There is still a war against these Chechen extremist taking place in Southern Russia

Episode 378:  Fitness Prepping – Winning Mentality(5-14-2013)…

Show Summary:

It is so easy to give up.  To say, “Enough is enough, I’m through, I’m done.  The hell with my goals and dreams.”  This is the mentality of a loser.  Someone who obviously does not care about making it to the next level in life, or is afraid to tackle challenges.

The mentality of a winner is a mind-set that is geared towards never giving up and focusing on the objective.  A person is who is driven to the point, so that they will be undeterred by failure and will not make excuses to that they can quit.  That is the easy way out and not indicative of the struggle that allowed humanity to prosper by overcoming obstacles.

Show Notes/Topics:

The Winning Mentality

  • If it was easy, everybody would be doing it
  • Struggle is part of the equations and the same can be said for failure – realizing what true victory is all about
  • You cannot give up

Excuses Are For Failure

  • Excuses are a route for giving up
  • Everybody has them and uses them, but they all stink
  • Probably will never reach your goal if you continue to make excuses

Go Get It

  • You have to go against the nature of complacency – the easy way out
  • The ability to think and use our brains are our greatest tools for success
  • You can not give up and do not be afraid of the struggle

Episode 377:  Bugging Out – Go Time!(5-14-2013)…

Show Summary:

On today’s show, I will discuss developing the proper mentality for leaving your home when a disaster is about to strike.  Also, understanding that with modern technology, everyone should be properly informed and up to date on current events.  There should be no excuses for lingering in a potential disaster area, when everybody with a clue should of been long gone hours, of even days in advance.

So when it’s time to go, then go.  Do not be that person who decides to put themselves, of their family  members in peril because of limited planning.  Or even worse, no planning in advance.  Remember, that sitting around and pretending that everything is okay in a modernized world leads to complacency and complacency is a stone cold killer.

Show Notes/Topics:

Destination

  • Have a destination to head to in advance – preferably with people who you trust(like family members, or friends) at a safe location – cache food and other supplies at that location, so that you will not be a burden

Waiting It Out

  • Do not wait it out – with modern technology, there is no reason to sit around and wait to the last second to get out, when more than likely you already had advanced warning

Proper Mentality

  • Material possessions can be replaced, lives can’t – maintain the proper mental attitude – when it is time to go, then go
  • Get prepared now – be informed, gear prepped, destination to head to, routes of egress, plans for picking up the kids, and leaving work

Smart phone technology has taken the planet by storm.  In a little under three years, the cost of smart phones have dropped considerably and have given consumers tremendous technological advantages.  This trend will only continue, as mobile technology improves and becomes affordable to even more consumers.

In this video, I will show two different pay as you go phones that I have purchased during the last three years.  The first phone is a basic flip cell phone used with the Straight Talk wireless network, with very limited internet browsing capability.  A sturdy little companion that has been dropped many times by myself, but has still remained functional during the last three years.  The cost for this phone at the time of purchase was $40.00 and I used the $30 no contract, pay as you go plan provided by Straight Talk .

A little under a week ago I purchased another phone, the 3G Alcatel ONE TOUCH Premiere, a $30.00 dollar Wi-Fi enabled Android based smart phone.  This smart phone uses the Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 operating system.

The reviews for this phone suck, but that is not the point.  The fact is this, in a little under three years, a brand new smart phone can now be purchased with significantly advanced computing capacity when compared to past mobile technology.

And of course, the phone gives me the ability to use smart phone apps as well, including access to Facebook and Twitter apps.  Additionally, this new phone has a camera and a LED flash/light as well(something that my iPhone 3GS does not even have).  Plus a functional keyboard for quick messaging.

The drawbacks for this phone are durability related, as I get the impression that it will break at the first time that it is tested against Earth’s gravity in a downward crash landing against a solid surface.   Plus the plan will cost me $50 a month from US Cellular, with a limited one gigabyte data package.  Sucks!

However, the plan is a no contract, pay as you go plan similar to the Straight Talk plan used in years past.  This the best feature for both of these phones, as I can end service when the plan expires at the end of the month, without having to pay a contract cancellation fee.  And that is pretty friggin awesome.
